Nike+ Training is an app designed for iOS, it allows you
download different kinds of workouts depending on what you want to accomplish
and in how much time. It also integrates social media since it connects you
with you Facebook friends or other friends that are active on the app. By
connecting with friends you can share with them your workouts and send
different badges to motivate each other.
In order to use the app you need to create a profile, so it
really encourages you to be social. There is also an area called “Sport Feed”
in which you can read different articles and see the comments your friends have
made or make your own. It even integrates their own version of “like”, except
they call it “cheer”.
Nike+ Training Club clearly has tried very hard to turn the
program into a community. They even integrate the word “club” into the name.
However, based on my experience, I don’t think they have been very successful at it. I use the app at least twice a week and I’m a very active social
media user. Yet, I still haven’t found the benefits of using the social media
part of the app. Probably it works better for people with close friends who are
also very active, but that hasn’t been my case.
I would integrate online groups, pairing different users by
similar interests and age. This would encourage users to be more active and
interact with other people that have their same fitness goals.
