Introduction to Vine

What is Vine?
  • Vine is a video-sharing app. It allows you to record and upload 6-sencod looping videos. These videos can be a montage of separate instances or just very-short films.
  • The social platform is owned by Twitter. The most recent statistics shows that Vine has 40+ million total active users (2014). Every minute around 8 new videos are uploaded. (In comparison, Snapchat has 60+ million active users)
  • More than 30% of its users are teens (14-17 years-old).
  • Most politicians and government agencies use Vine to share the 6-second videos on Twitter.
  • Vine reaches 14% of the U.S. digital population. (It is not very popular in India, only 4% of internet users are active Vine users.)

How to use it:
  • You need to have a smartphone and the app.  You can only watch the video from your computer but you can’t record or upload anything.
  • You can use your same Twitter account to Sign in. Vine takes all your information from Twitter and transfers it to create your profile.
  • There is also an option to create an account with you email, if you don’t want to link the Vine account to your Twitter.
  • The platform allows you to see what Vines are popular at the moment or to search by “channel”, which is according to your topic of interest.
  • You don’t need to have any editing skills to use the app.
