usability.gov

I’d like to share my experience about usability.gov. When I start working I have explored that design and structure of web page was unclear, maybe the reason was webpage’s specific purpose, page is mostly oriented on professionals who are working on managerial level with the interest of web sites design.
when I continue research I have found out that the usability.gov was formed to help government workers, but provided material is useful for many private-sector users as well.

The site provides guidance and practical tools how to make web sites more usable, useful and accessible. The usability.gov site can be used like a “cookbook”, as users can learn from the webpage “step-by-step instructions to plan, analyze, redesign, test, and refine and Web sites internal applications”.

As a user you can find information about “usability evaluation and user research methods and resources, you can also find information related to content strategy, information architecture, user interface design, interaction design, visual design, project management, accessibility, and analytics”.
The site also provides: how and when use various techniques and tools, templates and documents, which you can adapt and use for your project, guidelines and governments specific information, glossary, list of trainings, publications, for learning purpose
Usability.gov provides samples of project-planning documents such as kick-off meeting questions, samples for recruiting usability test participants, valuable examples of user surveys and so on.
Besides, above listed opportunities interested users have ability to read blogs, which are useful for them, be involved and actively participate in blog discussions or share experience and skills though this. Also, it should be mentioned that blogging has strict requirements, user should prepare information, provide to web administrators and after  revision process will be posted, which means that this is a understanding and willingness of quality of provided information.
You can communicate and ask questions in twitter. if you want to receive update information you can register and then get updated information.
Overall summary of research is:
·
  •   Web site is very useful,
·
  •   Not very popular, and mainly focused on concrete audience;

  • Provided information is relevant for users with the concrete interest
;
  • Design and architecture of web site is very flexible and comfortable for every device users;
  • Provided information is user friendly and can be assessed as a high quality, without burden of technical terms and conditions.

Recommendations:
·
  • Web site should have PR activities with the focus to gather more users and participation network
  •  Should be popularized by governmental agencies.

Conclusion:
I’d like to advice my classmates to actively use web site for any assignment not only for DG class purposes but also further professional carrier.
